Happy Canada Day to all my Canadian friends!
Today we were involved again with yet another Hearts Of Gold function, this time as event photographer only.
The event was a huge departure from the barbeque parties we tried the last two years. It was held at the Quinta Berenice, a stone's throw from the old HoG office. The place can hold 200 persons but has many anterooms for additional display features. And the large rear parking lot was used for a "faire" for about 30 artisans and sponsors, everything from crafts, food, drinks, and our friends from the Dog Obedience School.
My first stop was to purchase desserts from the children at Cetap-Lucy, specifically from Angel, the young lad that I have sponsored for the past year. Seeing his face again, and his big smile as he recognized me, I decided then and there to sponsor him for another year. I can't really afford it, but I am sure the good Lord will look after me in other ways.
Dance troupes performed outside while we had a magnificent opera singer, flexible acrobat, and comical magician inside. They had roving muses blowing bubbles and a medieval monster....
During the fabulous meal provided by Quinta Berenice there was a video presentation about the main cause, supporting a sustainable habitat for victims of the April 16 earthquake on the coast. Part of the proceeds also go to help support a program for the children of El Arenal.
I found myself musing about all the kind people that I knew in the crowd, all here to support the fine work of Hearts Of Gold. I guess it is that kind of person that I count among my friends.
As usual, the meal was a tad late and the rest of the evening was delayed so that there was only 10 minutes left for music and dancing...
Hats off to all the staff and volunteers at HoG putting on such a superlative event.
I hope you enjoy the photos. That was the day's
excitement, Cheers,
Al
