Sunday November 3, 2013
November 3 is Cuenca's Independence Day and it is a great day for celebrations all over town.  The Coopera investors decided today would be a good day to get our plight in the public eye by demonstrating outside the Civic Center, south of Parque Calderon.

The huge police and military presence was because this celebration was being attended by Vice-President Jorge Glas Espinel, who is sympathetic to our cause.
It turns out this celebration was also attended by the Miss Cuenca that I was dancing with until 2am....!!  She looked a lot better than me today, but then, she wasn't up until 4am working on the photos, plus she got to sit down today...
Hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

Parque Calderon is popular on Independence Day

The weather was cooperating, cloudy and warm

The police helicopter cruised by

The Coopera protesters brought their black coffin

We had some competing protesters, not sure what for.

The coffin and candles got center stage

Very effective, don't you think?

The police presence kept growing

Then the police moved up to keep us off that street

This was because the dignitaries were about to arrive by vehicle

Our protest was peaceful, so no worries

We had a good turnout of protesters, but few Expats

I got part way into the building before being nicely escorted out

You knew some big wheel was coming when the big motorcycles came

Vice-President Jorge Glas Espinel was all smiles and waves

The Vice-President entered without incident

Sandra is very vocal in our cause

I am glad I got this contrasting shot...

We were right across from the Civic Center (right)

The military and police were great

The police and military were calm, and mostly bored with this duty

Nobody gave them cause for nastiness

I had to sit for a few moments, standing on concrete is tiring

I came back across to the Civic Center

Our lawyer was taking pics or videos

Can't resist...

My favourite shot of the day

This guy was great to me (looks like the Green Mile actor)

Preparing for bigwigs' exits

Two more Queens of something or somewhere

Just caught the VP's face in the crush of people

Then I caught the back of his head on the way to the vehicle

And another...

Then he is waving as they drive off

Many dignitaries still inside

My dance partner, Miss Cuenca comes out

and she quickly disappeared
