Saturday January 31, 2026

Today is a special day for me as it is the date of the first wedding of a grandchild, Dawson, to his lovely new wife, Katie.  I am desolated at not being in Canada during this time, but I had booked this trip last August, long before they set their wedding date.

I got notice that Temu is refunding me for a 6" chainsaw I had ordered that cannot be supplied.  Funny that it takes them more than 2 weeks to realize this, then who knows how long to actually process the refund, which will likely be on the account just so you have to buy something else....

And I still have not received the refund from Jacquie Lawson Cards either.

I noticed that our chubby Rocas' face is crooked.  I mentioned to Cristina that she likely had a stroke, and Cristina said yes, she has been like this for a while now...  At least I can still coax Rocas to come for walks most nights.

I watched a curling playoff between Nova Scotia and Alberta and the play was so much better than the round-robin..  Alberta won and has a chance to win it all, but there are at least 2 tough teams to beat .

Cristina finally put up the new Temu cat curtains and they look pretty good, especially with Blanco asleep in the cat-bird seat in the window.

I was bored, so I started compiling a list of my favourite movies of all time, and I am almost finished a second page already...  These are the ones that you catch when flipping channels and you decide to watch them for the umpteenth time when you know most of the dialogue by heart...

Then I jumped on the old electric moped and went to visit Christian at the cemetery for a few minutes.

As I left, I ran into his father, Carlos .  I asked if there was going to be a Paso Fino Cabalgata parade today as there has been one the last 2 years for sure at the end of January here, and I saw two ride by the front door earlier...  He said that he is sure that the date has been moved to the end of March, ...after I am gone... Drat!!!  I was looking forward to get some nice shots this year.

Just in case, I motored to the north end of town and did run across 2 Paso Fino riders,.. probably the same 2 that had ridden past our door.

I continued to where the parade usually gathers but it was quiet, so I took some pics of the Brahmas and the Egrets.

For about the fifth time, I have heard parrots, they are noisy, but they fly away too fast to get any shots,.. drat!

I have heard back from our friend, the vet John, and he will find a day this coming week when we can go photograph the paragliders from the mountain behind Roldanillo... That excites me!

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.

Friday January 30, 2026

I arose earlier than usual today, wanting to get rolling because of possible company coming at 11am.

After chores, I went in the back patio enclosure and cut open the mangled Temu box containing the new chicken coop.  At first, I thought I was in real trouble, because there was only the metal sides, and a pair of gloves, but no instructions or bolts or fasteners.

I dumped it all out and breathed a sigh of relief when I found the bolts and nuts and lousy fasteners inside a glove.  A few pieces were slightly bent from rough handling in transit but were easy enough to straighten.  The coop is a lot lighter than it looked in the advertising, but will do OK here...  I remembered the pictures of the way it looked all set up, so I got my tools together (the supplied tools take too long) and got to work.  Cristina was surprised that I had it almost done by the time she came to look.  We added some stronger zip-ties and it is ready for occupancy in a day or so.  We will need to fashion something to keep the rain off.

As we were almost finished, the dogs heralded someone at the door and yes, 7th cousin Roger came by to visit, feeling much better with the medication to fight his infection.  With his help, we put the finishing touches on the coop.

He slipped out to pick up his neighbor's child, Camila, that he escorts back and forth to school every day.  I guess the brother Johan is old enough to walk himself now.  That comprised our old fishing group...

The two came back as Roger knew that Camila would fall in love with cuddly soft Choco, and she sure did!

After lunch, I watched some great elimination curling matches with only the best 6 teams involved, and much greater skill shown...  The curling will be much better for the next couple of days!

2 of the 3 cats often come to join me as I watch my IPTV.  Today it was Blanco.  Sometimes it is Mischa, the black one.  The orange cat, Mono, still avoids me.

I did sit ouside waiting for Tom Thumb as dusk neared without success.  I saw him check me out with the big dogs inside the fence and he decided to wait me out.  Then it got too dark to take any decent pictures of my fast-moving little buddy, so he won out.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  Now Blogger is getting all balky with the photos again... Grrrrrr    That was the day’s excitement.
