Tuesday July 1, 2025

Yesterday, I installed a Canadian flag on the bag of the Gio.  It may stay there for the summer...

I was going to take the stairs down again to install a back cushion in the car when I spotted a blind man near the elevators looking lost.  He had only moved in yesterday and does not know the building.  I helped him down and then took him to the next block to buy himself a pizza, his meal for the day, and then walk him back to his sparse apartment.  I discussed his situation with the Manager here, but he said there are almost no mechanisms to aid the blind in Alberta.  The Manager apparently knows this man Tio (Uncle in Sapanish) from before and he is very needy, having burnt out many good samaritans in the past.  From my short experience with the man, I can see that happening.

Anyway, I finally did install the new lumbar cushion in the car, then came upstairs and tackled cutting up my 2 heads of cabbage, one green and one purple...  I like that combination.   Then I needed a nap.

I saw a notice in the elevator to go see about our new rental charges starting July based on our income, and the extra services.  Because I collected the GIS for the past year, my rent increased quite a bit.

I had Don come over to give him the 4-page list of espionage authors with a list of some of their major books.  He was thankful, but I was so surprised that he claimed to not know any of the authors!!  Very strange indeed.

I ran into a returning resident named David, a computer guru, who had just returned from living in Bangkok for 8 months.  He was on the 34th floor of a building when a major earthquake hit there, and he was scared sh*tless running down the 34 flights of stairs in the swaying building, watching the walls cracking around him...

Today, I was in no hurry to go out in the heat of a 28C day, but started by cruising the Legislature grounds again and it was great for families playing in the water, and a sound stage was putting out some decent music.  There were only food trucks along 99 Avenue and nothing below at all of any interest.  I left feeling quite disappointed.

Next, I went to the Ice District where online it had said there would be family activities from 3-10pm.  There was almost nobody there and the security guard was saying that the activities were over at 4pm...  So much for truth in advertising...

So, I headed again to Groundworks at Churchill Square where people were happily milling about and the food trucks had good line-ups.  I waited in line for 2 sausage on a bun that I had been craving, and a curly fry stick.

I honestly doubt that I will brave the crowds to watch fireworks at 11pm, but..... we'll see....

Some of the photos are of the sunset after a brief storm 2 days ago, taken through my very dirty windows.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.
