Sunday January 10, 2016
Saturday, at Joe's Secret Garden, while discussing the little time left in Cuenca for Richard and Maredeys, we decided that we would take them to Giron to see the sights in that area.  I hastily contracted with one of our reliable taxi drivers, German, and he was right on time the next morning to take the 5 of us.
As usual we stopped at the war memorial near Portete to enjoy the spectacular vista of the Giron valley.  For once, it was not really cold and windy on the mountaintop.
It was a tad blustery when we got to the Chorros (waterfalls) De Giron, and the spray from the falls definitely caused goosebumps, but we managed to get more good shots of the people and the scenery.
We tried to return to Cuenca for a late almuerzo lunch and the girls had their heart set on typical Colombian food but, alas, those restaurants were closed.  Richard checked the reviews of the restaurants in the area and saw that La Esquina had the best reviews in the city.  It certainly was a good choice because both the beef and pork tenderloin dishes were magnificent.
After that great feed, Richard wanted to get his bottle of 30-year-old rum so a little side trip accomplished that, followed by a stop for Coke and ice.
We returned to our place and had a few rum cocktails from 3 bottles and enjoyed a lot of good music and lively conversation.
We will be sorry to see Richard and Maredeys leave for Medellin, but we now have an invitation to visit them there, so we will have to save our pennies to make that happen.

I hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

The view from the war memorial always leaves me breathless

I love the Giron valley

Cristina and Maredeys enjoy each other's company

Maredeys loves to pose for photos.  I don't mind.

Christian walking to the falls

Nicely framed shot of the lower falls

The spray on the little bridge was pretty cool

Some brave souls under the falls

What a lovely spot

Great backdrop for photos

An abuela with tres nietos

Love the splashing on the rocks

My Tilley hat never looked so good

Joking around with a turd in Giron

Had to visit the stained glass in the Giron church

The dingy outside hides the inside treasures

It is always well decorated

OK, I like the candles too

This is not an uncommon sight, very hardworking people here

Near the central square in Giron where Maredeys bought a new hat

Richard and Maredeys leave on Tuesday

The Inca Trail (Avenida Loja)

One of the best views in Cuenca

German and I shared the beef tenderloin

Richard and Maredeys shared the pork tenderloin

This was the apple pie, for one dessert

This was the lemon pie

This was chocolate cake with port sauce
