Thursday December 17, 2015
Today was spent in preparation for giving Christian a little tour of El Centro, having a pizza at La Vina, heading towards La Condamine and subsequently Otorongo Plaza to enjoy the lighting.
We timed it right so that we could make it to San Rocque church on Avenida Loja around 7pm.  It was surprising to find the doors open but we soon realized that it was because there was a late mass in process.  Our goal was to be early enough to get decent seats to listen to the Cuenca International Chorale whose concert was beginning at 8pm.  I have many friends and acquaintances involved with the choir so it is always a pleasure to hear the fruits of their hard work.
The voices and harmonies were amazing for such a large group and they are to be commended for putting on such a lovely performance.  They did a good job in performing songs in several languages and providing a comprehensive program with translations.
San Rocque church has good acoustics so the sound was pleasing.  It is a shame that they didn't have more risers to have the group much higher for better visuals, and better lighting.  The flat wood benches are OK for a 1 hour mass where you are up and down in accordance with the rituals, but definitely not comfortable for sitting for almost 3 hours.
I have been asked to photograph the next performance on Monday after their first pro photographer backed out on them.  While I would enjoy the notoriety of being mentioned as the photographer, I realize that I just don't have the equipment, especially good lighting, to do a proper job.
I hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

Truly impressive sound from a large volunteer group.

Lovely harmonizations

Smaller groups performed several songs/hymns

A small group of ladies did amazing A Capella work

It would have been better if the group were on higher risers

Everyone got to sing along to the classics at the end
