Had to get an oil change in the car so it will be ready if I am able to take a trip to Edmonton in February…
The day started off nicely but quickly deteriorated with fluff snow.  There were a few deer in the backyard and I felt so sorry for them as they got covered with snow.   I know that snow is an insulator and their fur is meant to cope with the elements but it still tugs at the heartstrings as you want to go out and offer them a blanket…
I had another meeting with the owners of the house tonight and we hammered out a few more details and discussed moving the possession date up to Feb 14th which would give us both more time to deal with post-sale issues.  They also chose what items they would like to keep so that reduces the amount of items I need to sell.
I guess Cuenca got hit with a very unusual heavy hail and rainstorm city-wide yesterday that even caused some power outages.
Hope everyone is toasty warm….
Hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

This was the gorgeous mid-day view yesterday

The deer were enjoying the exposed grass

See him cock an ear as I talk to him

Then the snow starts to blow in

They stayed in my yard for a long while

I feel so sorry for them, even though I know this is nature

That seemingly plaintive look

Then they curl up against the snow to keep warm

They would run away if I offered them a blanket...

Another day of preparing stuff for sale, doing repairs, etc.
The Rockies were very misty at lunchtime today but still visible.
In the mid-afternoon I was again graced by the herd of nine deer.  The largest one was hogging the neighbour's bird feeder and chasing off any interlopers.   I managed to get a couple of shots of the whole herd while one of the battles was in engagement.   Then one youngster jumped the fence and barely made it, clipping his hooves on the top of the fence.
Later in the afternoon there were TWELVE deer back there......
The weather is gorgeous but cool, but seems much warmer when the wind dies down.
Hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

The Rockies are misty today but still visible

This big fella was hogging the bird feeder

Even the birds would not come near him

Part of the herd of nine arrives

Nine deer in this shot, and a fight in the center

The big deer was not allowing anything near the bird feeder

They seem so lost at times but I am glad they come near my place

This little one jumps the fence

Almost all the way over

but he clips his hooves but makes it.

They can tell we are friends

We even manage to talk to them

It looks like a doe and fawn

This one thinks he is hidden.

The last couple have days have been spent solidifying the house deal so now we are just awaiting the final paperwork without the conditions.
The Rockies are so pretty in the winter and we have also been treated to some colourful sunsets.   The one tonight looked like the crown on the Statue Of Liberty!
I went and visited Mom today.  She continues to amaze us at the ripe old age of 97.  We went for a quick walk through her complex and I was quite taken by an ornate chess set which is prominent in the main hallway.
Mom is very thrilled to have my roll-top desk in the corner of her living room where it fits like a glove.
Looking forward to visits from my sister and my children this week.
Hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

Friday lunchtime view of the Rockies

Saturday lunchtime view of the Rockies

Saturday Sunset

Wider view

About 20 minutes later it got all pinky

Mom is happy with the roll-top desk

I hope I look this good at age 97

Love this chess set at Bonavista

Very Oriental medieval theme

These pawns look pretty formidable

Sunset tonight looked like the crown on the Statue Of Liberty

These were taken at 5:25

This is later, at 5:36

The colours are getting deeper

By 6:13 the colours are gone but the crown remains

Then this fellow visited quitely

I think the flash confused him for a moment

Then he found me and determined I was harmless

This hand-held shot, no flash, was just before he laid down in that spot

Early this morning there were 2 deer holding vigil on the edge of the escarpment and then I never saw any for the rest of the day.
I did a lot of telephoning and visiting to get our taxes, utilities, phone, and internet cancelled on my move-out day.  We are being positive that the house deal will go through.
Wintertime is certainly when we get the best views of the Rockies and today was no exception, then a lovely yellow sunset developed and petered out and there were clouds that I thought looked like dolphins going by...   I went into my office until a friend alerted me that the sunset had revived into a fiery pink so I was out on the deck in a flash with my camera again.  I sure am going to miss these sunsets...
Hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al
