This was the call from Hearts Of Gold and we participated....
Hearts of Gold has organized with the Municipality of Cuenca to do a Bilingual Cathedral Tour with the children of the El Arenal this Thursday, Sept 11th from 3:00- 4:00pm. We are looking for volunteers who would like to participate in the tour by chaperoning child. Light refreshments will also be provided by the Municipality for everyone following the tour.
The only real surprise is that the tour was at the Old Cathedral, over 500 years old, not the newer Immaculate Conception Cathedral. The New Cathedral was truncated due to an error by the architect because the foundations would not support the weight of the proposed spires.
The Old Cathedral is deceptively the largest wooden structure in Cuenca. Most of the wood is painted to look like stone.....
The little girl I was paired with, Rosa, was more interested in hanging around with two of her buddies, so I did not object.
Hope you enjoy the photos. That was the day's excitement, Cheers, Al
