It isn't everyday that you get to meet such a prominent member of the Ecuadorian National Assembly and now we have had 2 meetings within a week with Oswaldo Larriva, the President of the Economic Committee of the National Assembly.   Part of his mandate is to investigate the handling of the Coopera liquidation, which has been completely bungled by a Government department.  Luckily he is very sympathetic to the pleas of those folks who have had their life savings taken away.
I was called at 9:15 to be at the Quinta Bolivar for a press briefing at 10:00 and, unusual for Ecuador, the briefing started bang on time!   The briefing went on for over an hour but covered many topics under his purview as the President of that powerful committee.
The other fellow at the dais was Oswaldo Tamariz, the General Manager of the huge Government electric, water, sewer, and internet utility, Etapa.
Considering that he has been battling leukemia for some time, he is a very busy and intelligent man who puts in some incredibly long hours.   We were amazingly honoured to be invited to his home this past Sunday for a private conference about the Coopera fiasco.  Even though I understand very little of the dialogue, I can read the faces of our group and understand that we have great faith in this gentle man.
Hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

The press is gathered very close

Radio, TV and newspapers sent their crews

Larriva fields 90% of the questions himself

He is well respected and honest

He gives us all hope

He is always very sincere

Lots of recording devices in front of them

Larriva handles himself very well

It is good to see that his leukemia appears to be in remission

The press ask many questions

And they get many answers.  Our group is happy with what they heard.
