Today was a return to Joe's Secret Garden after an absence of two weeks so it was a bit of a homecoming to a lot of warm and friendly faces.  I missed seeing some of my Canadian friends who usually show up for Joe's famous Southern Fried Chicken.
I actually went by bus because it was cool, I was cold, and the forecast was for rain today.  For 12c it is very easy to let someone else drive.
I was asked to take a lot of shots tonight of couples and groups so that stroked my ego a tad...  and I enjoyed doing it.
I tried to take the #16 bus back home after (I skipped dessert) but it was not showing up so I caught an illegal cab for $3 home.
I hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

I watched a shitload of tennis today and was happy to see that Eugenie Bouchard is advancing.
I was mostly killing time until I had to be at Common Grounds at 8:30pm to check out the band Rockstone with a few of the Hearts Of Gold folks.  The good news is that this band is really good, and apparently reasonable....  They did not disappoint.
I was also joined by Gary and Maria Dolores (who works with my buddy Oswaldo and happens to be one of Cristina's friends).
I wasn't going to eat but I saw beef nachos on the menu so I had to try them.  Maybe if they had had a lot more sour cream and actually supplied some salsa, the meal might have been top-notch.
As such, I did not stay much longer than an hour because this is not going to be my decision anyway, and I wasn't drinking nor dancing.
I made sure that my video guy was operating his store tonight as I went by because I had 3 videos that they supplied that had no English track.   Every time I don't make them check them on the TV, this happens....  Of course I bought another 4 as well so my collection will need weeding out soon.
I hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

Neil & Natasha also came to check out the band

Ed was the one who had suggested them

Gary and Maria Dolores decided to join us tonight as well

Rockstone puts on a good show with good sound

They might fluff a word or two, but overall they are very enjoyable.

Thursday September 3, 2015
My first task today was to meet at the next site for the OBG dance with the fellow that I wanted to contract to DJ the show.  We struck an agreement and will meet later to supply him with our music and that of our patrons.  I have given our patrons the option of supplying up to 3 songs each but so far nobody has submitted anything.
Then I rested up a bit because I was determined to go out on the Thursday night ride with the bike club.  I finally realized that the reason that I have dumped Toxic twice is because I was using the front brake while turning on slippery surfaces.  I have to really concentrate to use only the rear brake as much as possible.
I showed up at the beautiful Puente Roto (Broken Bridge) just before 7:30 and I was the only one there....   I checked my watch several times and, this being Ecuador, everybody else showed up late.   There was a photographer present and he even brought capped beers as props for photos.   One neat bike caught my eye with its camo colours and I commented on it to Francisco, our fearless leader.  He said that it was in a Mad Max scheme.   I should have recognized that because I had just watched the movie last night....
I think we all got away shortly before 8:30 this time and headed east, passing by Monay on our way to a viewpoint high above Challuabamba.  It was pitch black up there and at times my camera refused to shoot, even in manual mode.  That can be so frustrating at times.  The shots are poor because they are all hand-held.  I started to try to bring a tripod but figured that would have to wait until I can rig some better holders on Toxic.
They took a route back that went right by Lotis & Mike's, and Oswaldo's to the Autopista, then they cut down at the Hospital IESS and 24 de Mayo, so I  was happy to be taken within 1/2 block of home.
I desperately wanted a snack after the ride but didn't want my normal household snacks.  I walked a block over and got some delicious salchipapas for $1.
The good news is that, even though my right shoulder isn't 100%, I had no trouble handling the bike tonight.
I hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

The Broken Bridge is a beautiful night attraction.  Toxic looks lonely.

It is well lit so it is surprising that it is reputedly a spot for drug deals

Definitely one of my favourite spots

Mad Max was coming to ride with us?

The gorgeous Todos Santos (All Saints) church

Another one of my favourite subjects

Mad Max bike again

I like that helmet in the center

A decent group to begin with...

Nice view, bad hand-held shot...

Eeuuuwww, this is worse...

It is pitch black up here

I was lucky to get the camera to shoot at all

It was quite a climb for these small cycles

Trying from a different vantage point

I didn't even see this structure in the dark...

Or this cross on the promontory...

You can see how bad the hand-held shot is

My reward for my bravery,... salchipapas

Tuesday September 1, 2015
Yesterday afternoon I decided that I had better get my house ready for visitors expected at the end of September.  My sweetheart Cristina is returning with her niece and doggies in tow so some changes in configurations would be needed.
First I moved the dining room table back to the dining room/garage and covered it well to keep it clean.
Then I moved one of the single beds back into the studio room which wasn't getting any use anyway.  The rooms needed something else so I decided to walk to Coral and check out small computer desks.  I didn 't see any so I asked one of the workers and she pointed at one which was dark, and not what I was looking for.  They used to have a big selection, but she explained that they were not stocking them any more.   She then took me over to a display near the elevators and there were 3 small computer desks that I thought were priced at $58.25 and they were adequate so I told her that I would purchase one.  She gave me the code slip and I went down and waited in line forever to pay, but I was in for a surprise....  When she rang it in, it came up with a 40% discount, plus the desk came with a chair for $35.25 (and I get $3.78 IVA back to boot)!!!  Boy, did I hit that lucky.....  I wanted to go upstairs and grab another one, but one look at the lineups told me to wait until morning.
This morning I went back and picked out the best desk and chair and called over one of the ladies.  There were no discount signs and she said the discount was removed until Weds afternoon or Thursday.  I went a little higher up the chain of command and managed to finally go home with another set for $35.25.
My next order of business was to check out La Parillada as a possible site for my OBG dances.  That place is huge and has many different-sized rooms scattered about.  I chatted with the owner and he said that my plan to hold monthly dances on a Wednesday night would not be a problem, I could use the biggest salon, and they would keep other patrons well separated from us.   The big salon should hold our group comfortably.
They also serve pretty darn good food so that is a plus that I was looking for.  I had the $6.50 charbroiled burger and fries and could barely finish it!  That cemented it for me so I have made a deal with him to begin October 7.   Now I am busy working on the music angle which I hope to do differently as well.   A preliminary notice has gone out to the group to mark their calendars and many favourable responses have been received already.
It began to rain as I was leaving so I waited for it to abate before venturing out on Toxic.  I was coming up to the traffic circle at Solano, going slow, probably braking, when my front wheel slid out on the wet cement and down I went.  I did not get hurt very bad this time, a skinned knee and sore(r) shoulder, but my leather jacket will need stitches.  I am not impressed with the lousy gripping abilities of those Fatty tires... grrrr.
My son Todd has discovered FaceBook and I chuckled to see how many posts he was doing, on a day off, and bored....  Nice to be back in touch.
I hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

Bedroom 1 with more room and new desk and chair

Studio room is back to being a bedroom with new desk and chair

Dining room table and 4 chairs all covered up

The main salon at La Parillada will give OBG enough room

Lots of room for the music man too

The whole center and right side will be dance floor....

And their food is delicious too......
