Saturday July 11, 2026

On Monday afternoon, I had the photos printed at Staples and delivered them to cousin Jeanne, cleaned the old frames and installed the new colour photos, and ended up staying for supper.  Dessert was a Revel from the passing ice cream truck.

Colombia lost their match at the World Cup so my favourites are dwindling.

Tuesday, I received my auto insurance renewal, which should have reduced in price as I rebuild my accident-free status (59 years and counting) but the bloody prices have gone UP, 3 years in a row.  I have basic $1MM PL+PD, etc, no physical damage coverage, and yet they want $212 a month....

Egypt had Leonel Messi and Argentina beaten until the French referee gave an unnecessary penalty to negate  a third Egyptian goal then ignored the same penalty later against Argentina which allowed the Argentine tying goal...  It showed horrible inconsistency and bias that will dog FIFA throughout this World Cup!

Wednesday, I wrote a very stern note the the Alberta Insurance Rate Board.  Car insurance rates in this province are absolutely ridiculous!  Families must pay stupid prices!!  The AIRB response did not assuage my anger one bit!

Thursday, France won, so I still have them to cheer for...

I saw a "deal" in the No Frills flyer and went shopping with the Gio.  Who would have thought that we would consider $12 a pound for rib steak was such a great deal!!!  I shake my head at grocers asking over $30 a pound....  More ridiculous gouging the consumers!

Friday, I watched the old movies "The Gods Must Be Crazy" I and II!!!  What classics!!!  I read my book until 1am.

This morning, I awoke early to notice weird clouds just after daybreak and watched a long time as the clouds moved in different directions at different levels... Alexa said it was a natural pheneomenon, but the folds in the clouds were amazing.  I did not get the same scary feeling about the winds as I did July 30 and 31, 1987 when we had the Black Friday Tornado....

Later it cleared up to a lovely morning, then a chainsaw sound got me up at 10:30am.  A 2-man crew was cutting branches off a large spruce/fir tree next to the two behind our building.  I was ready to go intervene if they touched the 2 in our yard....  When the branch cutting continued unabated, I realized the tree was slated for removal...  That made me very sad, but I was amazed at the skill of the lumberjack.

Now, the weather has changed again to a thunderstorm...  I am rushing this to go watch today's last 2 World Cup games of the round of 8.....

Thankfully Blogger cooperated...

I hope you enjoy the pictures (no captions needed).  That was the day’s excitement.
