Sunday April 6, 2025

Thursday night, I burned another pot of water and actually took an SOS pad to it, so it is basically ruined and will only be used to boil water from now on.  I went online and found a reasonable 5L T-Fal pot with a clear lid at WalMart and they will deliver it Tuesday.

Friday was nice enough so I broke out the Gio from hibernation and rode it to the Library to exchange books.  The Gio still turns a lot heads and it is so much fun to be able to ride it again.  The batteries need to be "exercised" or they will go flat, and so far, so good.

Canada lost the semi-final 7-4 to Scotland and, on Sunday trounced China 10-2 in the Bronze medal game at the Men's World Curling Championship.  Scotland took the Gold and Switzerland the Silver.  It was fabulous curling all week.

The temperature climbed to a balmy 20C today so there was no way I was staying inside.  I called Bob and picked him up in the Regal and we went first to look at simple scooters that he can fit in his new apartment.  A smaller turning radius is a must for that, and the new one costs $2,000, so there is hardly any reason to spend $500- $1,000 on a questionable used one..

Whyte Avenue was busy with flag-waving crowds of Palestinian and Ukrainian suporters and nobody was wearing jackets or sweaters.

So we found a place to park nearby, without meters, and went to our old haunt to listen to Leo Martinez at the Blues On Whyte at the Commercial Hotel.  Leo was late arriving and kidded us about not being there on our scooters.  We had not graced their doors for months!

Hunger set in, so we went to the corner and had beef nachos at Hudson's Pub.   We both love nachos, we were famished, so the big platter was emptied really quickly.

I dropped Bob off, came home, saw the clock read 6:16pm and the sun was still ablaze and the temp was still 19C...  It was too nice to stay inside so I jumped on the Gio and went cruising around the Legislature building.  I am so fortunate to live just a few blocks away from the lovely grounds....  And I met another stroller named Adelisa, who works for 211 Alberta which gives non-emergency support to people in need.  We had a nice chat while enjoying the sunshine.   https://ab.211.ca/

Now, I am back inside wishing that the sun would have been available for several more hours....  But the whole week is to be springlike so we will enjoy more of the outdoors for sure.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  Blogger, the last few times, has made it a real chore to try to upload my photos in the right order.....

That was the day’s excitement.

Such a gentle man

Happy 123rd Birthday Papa!  We miss you every single day....

And to our second father, who passed away on this date, RIP Lucien.  Your self-deprecating humour is missed.

Tuesday and Thursday I worked hard on my Storyworth book.  Now it just needs tweaking and a good proof-read.

Wednesday I took Bob to Walmart  and then to a doctor's appointment at the Hy's Center and waited an hour for him.  The wind outside was cool but the sun was warm on the Regal.  Then he treated me to lunch at McDonald's.

Virtually every night Don comes over to watch curling and Oilers hockey.  Sometimes I make a big salad, or he brings by hot food because he loves to show off his cooking.  His ribs on Thursday night were spectacular!

Today, I was up early to take Bob to view a new apartment through the Edmonton Senior's Association, just 5 blocks west of his present location.  His present Boardwalk apartment is huge, but freezing cold and dark,.. no place for an 80-year-old man, and the rent is ridiculous.  Bob is getting a letter from his doctor to help him break the lease.

The new apartment is very close in size to ours at the Manoir and much newer and obviously very well managed.  Pictures below.  The apartment is 10th floor, facing south, so his air-conditioner will be required, and the building manager confirmed that their maintenance man will handle the installation.

It took about 10 seconds to make the decision to move...  Tentative move-in would be April 28, Monday, at 2pm.  Everything is falling into place.

Then we went to his TD bank and put stop-payments on Boardwalk and their energy company that is ripping off Bob too.

Now Bob has to confirm the moving date with his son who will rent a van so he can confirm, sign and pay for the move-in.   Bob is a very happy camper to have such a nice subsidized place again.  It has a fabulously monstrous activity room with exercise equipment, shuffleboard, ping pong, billiards, and much more.  And there is a lovely Library room as well.  He will be much happier there.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.
