Today I was up early again to run with Victor to a Notary to get his Spanish translations notarized and then we headed to the west end DMV to try to apply for an Ecuadorian driver's licence.  I had to get some photos taken, make some copies, etc and then we got in line.
We were then sent to the head of the local DMV who spoke some English and he sadly informed us that they have changed some rules and they now require our Driver's Abstract to be apostiled instead of notarized, so that was a waste of $52.50...  I am checking with the Canadian consulate in Guayaquil if they can handle this for me if Victor goes there with my documents the next time he has a pick-up there.  Ecuador, where everything is possible, but nothing is for sure... lol.
I have worked on a few more Pase Del Nino photos today for you.
Hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

I was meeting a friend for lunch in El Centro today, and I was a little bit early, like usual, so a quick photographic tour ensued to kill some time.
Hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

Today I was up early enough to be sure I did not miss a very important meeting for Coopera investors.  On Monday I had learned that a very influential Assembleista member named Oswaldo Larriva was going to outline his plans for us, so I put the word out to gather a few expats as well.   The meeting was held in a hall at the Quinta Bolivar, an ancient mud building that housed the Liberator, Simon Bolivar, when he commanded in this area many years ago.
Oswaldo Larriva is a powerful member of the Legislative Assembly, President of a strong investigative committee charged with delving into the fiasco of the SEPS handling of the liquidation of our Coopera Credit Union.   He is deemed to be a valuable ally to our cause, mitigated by his bouts with leukemia so we personally wished him good health.
A standing-room-only crowd listened to him carefully and applauded many of his statements.  We hope his investigation will prompt the Government to realize that they have no option now but to treat all the depositors equally.
Another meeting is being planned between Larriva and our Expat panel for next week so we can present our unique problems and perspectives.  We are very hopeful that his intervention will be very positive for us.
Hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

Sunday March 16, 2014
Most of my plans for the day went completely sideways so I decided to go downtown just to stretch my legs.  The weather did not look so bad when I left home but the heavens decided to open for about 1/2 hour in El Centro.  That cleared out what few folks were around and caused the few open shops to close.
Immaculate Conception shots must really be taken in the daytime because it is so poorly lit at night, and I am rarely downtown at night.  How about that Addams Family truck, eh???
My little language buddy Juan was supposed to move in today after months of planning, but he decided to try to force, with 8 hours to go, a 30% reduction in rent.  I was not impressed with this brazen late tactic and, since it was no way to start a business relationship, he is now looking elsewhere for his privacy.
Hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

I sure never expected to see this in El Centro

I stayed out of the rain

Immaculate Conception looks more alive when it is wet

I was hoping for a better reflection

It was our typical 1/2 hour dump of rain
