Another day on Santa Cruz Island and Tortuga Bay in the GALAPAGOS.
Note that the Marine Iguana photos have been saturated to show the multi-coloured chameleon-type skin.
Thanks again to Google for completely fouling up the order of my upload.
That was today's excitement, Cheers, Al
We are staying at the top point of the bottom green section |
Many colourful crabs here |
This is the Puerto Ayora harbour |
This sign is at the start of the long path |
A mockingbird |
Appears to be a fault line here |
Dew on a cactus |
Cactus grows into a tree to get water and light |
Minnie Cactus? |
Part of the long path to Tortuga Bay |
One of the many varieties of Darwin's finches |
Can you find 12 iguanas?? |
They like to sun themselves on the volcanic rock |
They seem to have a chameleon-type skin |
Crabs seem to keep the iguanas company |
They are ugly, yet pretty, but harmless |
Stretching out for a tan |
i think there are 11 in this shot |
along with the nearby crabs |
I love the shore birds too |
Giving his best smile |
Now his lovely profile |
Pals forever. They huddle to maintain their temperatures. |
Another handsome devil. |
These guys skitter about all along the beaches |
And what beautiful beaches!! |
They seem to find something to eat in the tidal leftovers |
A little piece of heaven for sure |
Heron and an orange crab |
One of my favorite birds |
Always vigilant |
waiting for fish to come by |
moving about on land and sea |
Pelican gets a high vantage point |
Also one of my favourite birds |
Drying his wings a little |
Patience is a virtue |
They are not very graceful on take-off |
He's been doing some grooming so things are out of place |
Shocked that he would land in a tree with his big webbed feet! |
Magnificent colours to adapt to any environment |
Pelicans are so very graceful in flight though |
More heat-seekers |
A smaller bay around the corner |
a crab has dug himself a hole |
then out he came, pink as can be |
They can really scoot along with all those legs |
Waiting near the mangrove which drops branches to form trunks |
Quite the beak on this guy |
Finches are not very afraid of people |
My first blue-footed booby, but he is sitting down |
This guy landed on Marg's backpack |
The marine iguanas are everywhere |
The crowd is starting to come to the beach |
This fellow is fast asleep |
More different colours |
Can you see all the iguanas in front of the pool? |
Following a shore bird |
The crowd is getting bigger |
They come to enjoy the sun and the surf |
Artsy-fartsy shot of a leaf in the sand |
A pelican on the fly |
And the crowd keeps coming |
Another pelican shot |
Bella is way behind the iguana |
Isn't he pretty? |
Resting in the sun |
OK, I'll move |
Tortuga Bay is just gorgeous |
On the move |
What a beautiful place |
This little guy is a Lava Lizard |
Where the paths of iguanas crossed |
Flowering cactus |
Another lovely bay |
Gorgeous hibiscus |
Two surfer dudes |
Local girl |
and her sister |
Taking over the dock again |
They have squatters' rights or something |
Traveling by water taxi |
Many different boats in the harbour |
These guys can really climb the walls! |
Wood carving competition near the dock |
Al, Bella, Marg, Maxine, Barry, and Stu |
We are still in the round island in the middle |
Just being crabby today |
