Sunday February 10/13
We arrived in the GALAPAGOS ISLANDS on the desolate island of Baltra. First impressions notwithstanding, we then bused and ferried to Isla Santa Cruz, then caught a taxi the length of the island to Puerta Ayora, to catch a water taxi over to Finch Bay. This was a vast improvement over Baltra as we then found vegetation, birds, sea lions, marine iguanas and more.
That was today's excitement, Cheers, Al
We were headed for the round island in the middle, Santa Cruz |
Our destination was this town way at the bottom |
Landing at Baltra did not give a good first impression |
Then we catch a free bus to the ferry to get to Santa Cruz |
The ferry ride is not very far, luggage on the top |
The ferry is 60c |
Sea lions like to sun themselves out of the water |
A convenient buoy helps these sun worshippers |
The neat frigate birds are ever present near the water |
We ran into a political rally for the current President Correa |
Young man doing his part |
The rally centered at a skateboard park near our dock |
We catch a water taxi from this dock over to Finch Bay |
The marine iguanas welcome us to Finch Bay |
They generally do not mind posing |
Here is a frigate bird again |
The beach at Finch Bay looked very inviting |
Then this sea lion came in to play too |
He was unafraid but something looked odd |
It seems part of his bottom lip was bitten away in a fight |
He still waddled around and gave us a show |
Then he called for some playmates |
What? No takers?? |
We were fascinated with these Marine Iguanas |
Marine Iguanas seemed to be everywhere |
Sea Lions even take over the water taxi docks to snooze |
Lovely Galapagos art |
The water taxi dock is pretty at night |
This pelican was doing some night fishing |
I love pelicans |
