Saturday November 22, 2025

Last night, I was downstairs and noticed that Richard from the suite below me had replaced the lighting in the fish tank in the common room and the fish glittered, so I went for my camera....  Results below.

I slept almost 12 hours and decided I better take advantage of a decent 5C day and get out on the Gio...

I went to unplug the Regal and stopped.... the squirrel had discovered my sunflower seeds so I watched him for a bit.  I will have to spread some more soon....

I returned my last Mark Greaney book to the Library because Don would not commit to reading it.  He is such a frustrating guy.

There was supposed to be a big "Winterval" event on 104 St starting at 3pm, but there was almost nothing happening at 2:55pm...  One guy was giving away maple syrup chilled in snow/ice on sticks, and one lady was giving away hot chocolate.  A few fires smelled really good, and some music was getting set up in a vacant lot.  I got a free green Heineken toque, so it wasn't a wasted stop.  Some fake ice sculptures looked good enough to photograph though...

I continued on to Bob's to give him a tin of Watkin's ointment that I never use, and he was needing...  It is effective, but the heavy menthol smell is a bit of a nuisance.

On 102 Ave, a guy who usually has a lot of Oiler flags, etc. on his deck had a fancy mural painted on his fence!  I doubled back to get a picture, and later spent a long time cleaning it up.. See below...

Because I was only a block away, I stopped in at Vinnie's Treasure Shoppe.  They always have awesome furniture, etc for sale.  My probhlem is, for everything I want to buy, something has to go from my apartment...  It is always a case of "need vs want"...

I stopped off at the nearby liquor store where I bought the bottle of cheap "Crush" Cabernet  last Sunday and walked out with 4 more bottles to use for Christmas Cheer.  As wines go, it is actually one of the best I have tasted in a long time.

A block away I met a man and his young daughter at the corner, said Hi, and the man said his daughter wanted a ride on the Gio, so I took her around the block!  They were both very appreciative!

Then I plugged in my Gio because I don't leave for 3 weeks yet and hopefully might get a couple of more outings before then.

As I was writing this, one of the residents, named Murray, knocked on my door to see if I would want to sell my Regal... his daughter needs a decent car...  Sorry Murray... Not for a good while yet...

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.

Wednesday I finished my IPTV Controller Instructions, in both English and Spanish, and laminated them.  I have not decided yet if I will give Don the keys to my apartment to use my refigerator and TV or not while I am gone.  I probably will...  The Spanish instructions should certainly help Cristina after 3 months of coaching while I am there.

There was a ton of activity in the Manoir today, with plumbers, ambulance and pest control vehicles in the parking lot...

Thursday, Cristina sent me videos of the sump pump at work, draining our swamp after heavy overnight rains that knocked out the power for a while.  While the swamp was a nuisance, because of all the mud tracked in by the dogs, it was an attraction for bats, birds and dragonflies to eat the resulting increase in mosquito population.  Having already had Dengue Fever once, I will not miss the mosquitoes, but will miss their predators.

Cristina is also busy putting a chicken wire fence around a large spinach patch to keep the dogs out.   I guess I will not have to worry about my iron intake while there...  And the many trees we planted are beginning to bear fruit too.  A person will never starve in South America...

I slipped out to brush off the Regal and plug it in.  I also brought out a big cupfull of sunflower seeds for the squirrels, rabbits and birds.  I check occasionally to see if they will twig to my birdfeeder, but apparently not yet...

The last few days I have stayed in bed for 11 hours, not wanting to get up until then, so I am getting a lot of good rest.  I take my 25mg of Quetiapina to sleep around 10pm, my eyes are closing at midnight, and I sleep until 11am almost every day now with only 1 trip to the bathroom around 6am.   It is a routine that suits the boring cool winter days.

Today, I caught the squirrel in the area near my Regal but he went right by the seeds, seemingly more interested in the pine cones and snow...

I was running a blast of hot water into the kitchen sink for moisture, to be spread by a fan, when I saw the many bubbles spreading out from the spray, so I tried to grab some photos...  I thought it worth the effort..

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.
