I took part in a celebration in Gualaceo to honour the patron Saint Santiago (James The Greater).  I did not see one other gringo all day….

Hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

Huge mural in downtown

Nice angle on the church

Center aisle of the church

Great statue high above the doorway

Long view across the central square

Angled view from the park

Folks enjoying the band

These guys were first to lead a small parade

Many faithful coming in and out of church

This was a day for buying and lighting candles.

It doesn't look very comfortable

Another long angle view of the park and the church

Lots of stuff for sale circling the market square

Lady braiding a Panama hat

Young ladies with umbrellas dancing in the first parade

Mostly they were just hopping

This couple had nice hats

More of the dancing young ladies

One spectator pooped out

All ages were in the first parade

They were carrying all sorts of items

Parade to honour Saint Santiago

Then the float with Santiago himself

Beautifully decorated

The police were keeping an eye on things

Do you like the reflection??

Looking across the market square to the church

At least 20 priests on the stage for the ceremonies

A huge crowd is in attendance

I love this shot...

This one too!!!

Lots of devotion burning

The setup up front was ablaze

Hmmm, an Ecuadorian version of the Pieta

Beautiful altar area

Families joining in

I thought this was pretty

I loved the hat on the kneeling board.

Artsy fartsy shot

Oh, that statue again

See the bird on the cross?

Girls getting ready for a second parade

The army band got involved in this parade

Huge baked goods shaped like horses

Another nice angle on the church

Floral arrangement on the front of the main stage

Would you believe this is a family meal???

Two crafty ladies on the main drag

Some of the beautiful scenery just outside Gualaceo
