I had to go to Carolina Bookstore to exchange books. When I get on a reading kick, like in this cold weather, I actually get through a few books. After a while it gets tough to remember which title a person has already read.

Since I wasd going to be in the area, I called Gustavo to see if he would be free for lunch and he was so I stopped in. It turns out that his ex and a girlfriend opened up the Almendras y Miel (Almonds & Honey) Restaurant just 2 blocks away at 7-27 Mariano Cueva. And, by coincidence hios brother also stopped in. The place seats 14 and has different almuerzos every day. They are open from 10am until 6:30. Today we had Shepherd's Pie, accompanied by soup, popcorn, juice and a sweet dessert for $4. I think I can safely recommend this place.

Gustavo and I discussed changes we want to make to our bikes and he offered to take me to his mechanic Fernando near the Industrial Area to change my Exhaust pipe location. We want to lower the pipe so it is out of the way of my passengers who burn the heels of their footwear.
But first he had to run to the vet's to feed his dog that just had surgery. While he was away I got to sit in his "Cadillac" massage chair, watch Real Madrid lose a soccer match, and commissertae with his other dog, a large Bassett hound that I call "Fred" (from the cartoons) and that he calls "Ears" in Spanish (I wonder why??.. lol).

When he returned we went to see his mechanic Fernando who seems to work on cars, motorcycles, trucks and more. His shop is really well equiped with proper machinery for manufacturing custom pieces, welding, etc. Many cars in the shop were the small rice-burners looking to be hopped-up into racing car replicas. I always laugh at those. Anyway, we made an appointment for Saturday morning to re-route my exhaust pipe.

I also went to my 2 banks to update my books, etc. At one bank I need to make sure that my IVA refund is deposited, and at the amount requested. All is good there, so I will continue to do the refund submission on my own.

At the other bank it is all the utility and internet bills that come out. With the cold weather the electric bill has really jumped. I had trouble reconciling this month's bill because it mappears the code for the Empresa Electrica has changed and I don't see the charge for my Internet... Very weird. I may just wait and check again later because I don't know who can give me any straight answers..

As you know, my oldest sister Jeanne Bourassa Delanoy passed away yesterday so I was really a little out of sorts today and didn't do much of anything, ...also because of the rainy day.

After rummaging through a lot of old photos I decided to do this small tribute to Jeanne. I don't really have any material at hand to give you a chronological rundown as I would have liked so we will have to do mostly with the pictures themselves.

Jeanne was one of 3 children born to my father and his first wife, Evelyne Galarneau, who passed away from pneumonia. Mainly they were brought up by the Grandparents and relatives. After 8 years, my father remarried Yvonne Bourassa who was barely older than these children.

Jeanne married Gerard Delanoy and together they had 6 boys and one girl. One son, Maurice, passed away at a young age from leukemia.

The family lived on a farm in the Lacadia district for all those years and it is still farmed by one of the sons.

I believe Jeanne was born in 1926 or so, making her 91 years of age. She had been residing in the Marian Home in Radville, Sask for many years since the passing of Gerry and had been bedridden for many of those years.

Monday:

I had to run 2 errands for Cristina today on Buzzer because it is so much easier and quicker than taking 6 buses. First I had to go to the Hospital in the Industrial Park to make an appointment with a neurologist.

You have to take a number and wait your turn. My number was 95. There was an old indigenous grandma attended to by her granddaughter and hubby but they were outside when her number came up so they had to grab a new number, 103. It turns out that they are from the Shuar tribe in the far south near the Peru border and the hubby speaks pretty decent English. So I swapped numbers with granny so she would get in sooner. When 103 came up I started to go but another lady got their first and the lady next to me said "Your number is E01, not 103..." Without glasses, I was looking at it upside down.. So I was supposed to take another number and wait even longer. I spoke to the attending security guy and told him that I had already been waiting over 40 minutes and he snuck me in. Then the appointments person said I need copies of the IESS documents so I had to run across the street and come back. That is quite a racket they have in Ecuador with the copy shops and the notaries....

Appointment is tomorrow at 6:15pm... Ugh.

Then we were out of dog food, amongst many other things, so the weekly run to Coral was necessary. We stocked up pretty good and the bank account is another $100 lighter.

And a quiet nap was in order prior to running to Monte Sinai to pick up test results from last week. At least there were no lineups or glitches involved there.

Popcorn and a movie were the trick in the evening and Cristina chose "The Mummy", the new one with Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe. It is rated 5.7 on IMDB but it just doesn't cut it when it tried to mix in Jekyll and Hyde (Crowe). All these corpes rising from graves gets exceedingly tiresome.

Tuesday:

I took most of the day just to rest and recharge the batteries but it did little good. I never sleep during the day, just close my eyes and try to rest the body and it used to help, but not today..

Creistina and I took the buses to get to her 6:15 appointment. Our first bus, the #15 had a problem with the card reader so the driver pulled, off and got his tools to work. It probably only took about 5 minutes but it seemed longer. We actually got to the Hospital in the Industrial Park in real good time and had to wait, and wait.

While waiting, I got the sad news that my oldest sister, Jeanne, has passed away. 😓 I am pretty sure she was 91, and she had been in the Marian Home for many years. I understand that her surviving 6 children are with her. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Gerard Delanoy, and one son, Maurice, who died very young from leukemia.
This is a photo I dug up from around 1943. It is sad that the top 5 in the photo are now gone.

Cristina saw the neurologist and the good news is that all the tests are good. The bad news is that she has to stop eating many of her favourite things, especially eggs and bananas to control the migraines. She also got some special tablets to take for 3 weeks.

While we were at the Pharmacy we got some muscle pain medication to try, a few Tylenol, and some sniffle medication too.

This cool, wet weather, and this horrible feeling in my body, can all just smarten up please and let us enjoy life already...

We had another very kind invitation to join Liz and friends at her magnificent home for lunch. I completely misjudged the time (that's scary in itself) so we arrived late, but then so did everyone else. We were again treated to great appetizers and a delicious meal with a Middle Eastern flair.

Lively conversation was the order of the day and I enjoyed the company of Tim and Marcia from Spokane immensely. We were at our own small table in the living room and I did not get a photo.

All in all it was a great afternoon and we were sad to leave but we have our commitments at home with all our rescued animals.

Let's hope this coming week brings good things because my body sure has been struggling this past week and it has me frightened.

Tonight was a very special night at Joes' Secret Garden. Not only were there at least 3 birthdays in the crowd but we even had live entertainment!

My friend, Lynne Nadeau, had asked me to put her in contact with Ken at Joes', they struck a deal and Lynne was the headliner for the evening. Lynne sings Oldies to which everyone knows the words and is itching to sing along and she brought down the house tonight! Great job Lynne!

Coq Au Vin was the delicious meal tonight and Ken and KP have done it to perfection. Sorry that my one bad photo of the night happens to be of the main meal, so sorry.
