Wednesday – this is my day –
This is the temperature INSIDE the house, and note the time…
First we went to the Notary, again, because our Visa facilitator insists that the Notary would somehow legalize our marriage certificate.  The Notary vehemently said a flat NO, it needs to be apostilled, which is what we told to the friggin’ Registro Civil in Cuenca… but they had insisted that the “legalizacion” stamp and sticker was how they do things now.….. obviously not good enough for neighboring countries…  Now I need to get one of my good friends, Gustavo, because he is close to their offices, in Cuenca to get us an actual apostilled copy…………….  I am ready to kill these supposed experts….
Or… they want to try to change to a pensioner Visa which will involve getting a “Notarized” statement of earnings (I think) from Canada…..  Then she sends me someone’s blurry documents from Ontario on WhatsApp as a sample!!!  They honestly have ZERO inkling of confidentiality here…!!!  From one gong show to the next today, I have just about had my bellyful of South America.
Then we went to KIA to see what is happening with the car because we are not getting any response from 3 messages to salesman #2, Carlos.  We got to talk to the Manager, Luis, who once worked for Chrysler in Montreal.  He says the car now won’t be ready until mid-next-week (OK by me) and that it will come with the government mandated emergency kit.   He supposedly will send me details of someone who could install after-market body-side mouldings.
Next we tackled the ripped recliner by going to HomeCenter.  They sent someone to view it at our house at 2pm and we should know in a day or two what they decide..
I have packaged the Buzzer Matricula documents in an envelope and will take them to ServiEntrega to get them to Cuenca.  The last time we sent a $20 girdle it ended up costing us $122….  They have a licence to print money….

UPDATE:  Well I sent off the Matricula papers for Buzzer late afternoon and it was $35 for a couple of ounces , mostly cardboard for stiffness.  We went to the main terminal of ServiEntrega and they don’t handle International packages…… Grrrrr.  So we had to walk a few blocks to a tiny place in the nearby LA 14 mall where they had one kid handling it all.  If my hair wasn’t white yesterday it sure is today.
Gustavo responded to my email with the documents that we can apparently go to the Ecuadorian consulate in Cali and they will apostille our documents…  Can’t raise them by phone (small wonder) so we will make a 2-hour bus ride in the morning and see what happens….  Apparently they would not release any documents to him without a power-of-attorney...  Everybody has their hand out.

I am still fighting daily with my intermittent wi-fi on my phone and my NetTalk.  It is literally a foot from the router and won’t stay connected…….  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr….  Re-start after re-start of all equipment is not doing the trick.
That was the day’s excitement.

As I have said before, every bureaucracy in Latin America is an exercise in frustration.  We went to the office where they legalize foreign documents such as our Ecuadorian marriage certificate.  The man there, a self-important little man, kindly had his assistant look up our marriage certificate somehow online and proved that it was valid.  However he would not validate it for us because we need to get an appointment.  To get an appointment you have to go online to a special site where it either tells you "there are no appointments available, try again later" or, it lets you in and then stalls when you try to complete the process.
I have written to my car salesman 3 times to try to find out about the car without success.  If the truth be known, I am not anxious to have the car here anyway but the lack of communication is upsetting to say the least.
3 days after we purchased the 2 recliners one of them had a huge seam rip open in the back area so Cristina took some photos and she went to HomeCenter to ask for a new chair.  They said they would send someone out to look at it and would probably bring it in for repair which might take 2 weeks...  They haven't come yet.
Then I was contacted by the new Cuenca house owner and Victor about the Matricula (registration) papers for Buzzer.  You can imagine my embarrassment when I found these papers in my file... and not under the bike seat where I have always put them immediately after removing them for any reason.  Now we have to find a way to get them to Ecuador safely.
I am just so darn frustrated with the Latin American attitude that nobody matters except them, and their families.........  That is the way it is.
In no mood for pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.

Sunday July 15, 2018
Our euphoria on Friday was short-lived as we got a note from the Facilitator that my Visa app was refused because our marriage certificate has not been notarized in Colombia....  We had made a special trip to the notary here, just for that reason, and we were told that it was not necessary...  More typical Latin American nonsense.  So papers are being couriered back to us to try again, probably with another notary, to then courier the Colombian notarized documents back to the Facilitator...  Grrrrrrrrrrr..........
Saturday was spent mostly recuperating from Friday's trip.
This morning we watched the World Cup final and my team, France, did win, but I honestly felt that Croatia deserved the win more.  Croatia controlled the ball much better but didn't have the finish around the goal.  France was incredibly sloppy most of the game and almost gave the game away but was lucky to prevail.
We went out and I got a couple of decent shots of one of the neighbourhood herons before we caught a cab to the in-laws for lunch where I had a quick nap on their loveseat.
Then we caught a buseta to Andalucia to visit Christian's grave which is a bit of a ritual.  One of Cristina's nieces was at the gravesite and had even watered the plants for us.  There was an internment happening as well and a large crowd of people were present, as well as their many cars and motorbikes.
We also stopped in at Cristina's ex-in-laws nearby and had a nice chat and a few laughs.  Her ex, Carlos, is a house contractor and very handy so we will be throwing some work his way, starting with repairs to the house we are in...
I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.

I love those gorgeous misty mountains to the west

An artsy shot through the gateway

Such a nice gravesite for Christian

Lovely tiny flowers are part of this

Big crowd of people at an internment

Really pretty green flowers being used as well

The crowd begins to dissipate
