Good Friday is an exciting time to be in Cuenca.  When we scouted all of Ecuador in 2010 we were fortunate to be in Cuenca on this special day.  Very early in the morning there was a procession of the cross right down our street.  There would be several more all day, especially in the downtown core.
There was a dance event at San Sebas Cafe in the evening which I checked out.  Lots of nice people gathered to enjoy the 70's and 80's music of Brian Gary, a consummate performer who is always in a good mood.  Only 3 hours of music but it was a good time.  I had gone earlier for supper too because the food is generally pretty good there.
During one of the breaks I spotted another procession on the other side of the park, apparently going from church to church in El Centro.  They really go all out for most of the processions with folks dressed up and doing the re-enactment of that fateful day, with Jesus, Mary, and the Romans.  Easter and Christmas are wonderful times to be in Cuenca.
Sorry that the order of the photos got screwed up by Google again.
Hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

San Sebas Cafe with lots of revellers

Even a few Ecuadorians joined the fun

Brian Gary provided the entertainment

Brian puts on a good show

Everyone got up to dance

The crowd was just the right size for this small venue

An upper level view during a break

It is a lovely little cafe run by an Expat

MaryAnn and Lesley were enjoying themselves

Kathy and a friend clowning around

Good music and good fun

Early morning Good Friday procession down our street

A car with loudspeakers leads the throng

This was attended by a lot of people

I didn't see anyone actually dressed as Jesus,.. very odd

It is heartwarming to see so many faithful

Another procession stops at San Sebastian Square

They had a small stage set up

Again this was a very large crowd

This group had all the actors

They stayed in position...

for a very long time

It must have been very tiring
