Friday February 21, 2025

Wednesday, it was only -17C so I walked to the LRT station and took the train to the Library downtown.  Silly me, I had not factored in the darn wind and it was a very frigid trip.  On my return, I worked on more photos and watched curling and got further into my Jack Reacher series.

Thursday, I had another problem with CIBC because the credit card I am now using was not showing on my online banking so I could not even make a payment without running to my branch.  After 1/2 hour of talking to 2 departments, they finally fixed it up and I successfully made the payment.

I got a delivery from Temu of a small heater and I was angry when I saw it.  I double-checked my order to confirm that I had ordered a white one, and the silly geese had sent me a black one.  I went to their site and they have a mechanism to accept a 50% credit without having to return the item, so I grabbed it.

I was invited to Bob's place to watch the 4 Nations Hockey Cup Final between the USA and Canada, with a lasagna and apple pie supper beforehand.  I did not need much convincing.

The game was a see-saw battle with a lot of national pride on the line , fueled by more unsurprising idiotic comments by that moron Donald Trump.  Between him, and the boisterous captain of the American team, I don't know who I hated more that evening....  Luckily, the captain of our Edmonton Oilers, Connor McDavid, the best player in hockey today, scored the overtime winner for Canada.

I did not sleep that well because I had to be up at 6am,... way before my usual awakening time, to drive my buddy Don to Fort Saskatchewan for cataract surgery.

I dropped Don at the hospital and continued on to Gibbons to visit with my old friend Ken Johnston.  We had a nice chat for over an hour before I got a call to come and retrieve Don...

I honestly count myself very lucky.  My 3 closest male friends here are all in their 80's, each with hosts of medical problems, and I don't even take an aspirin.  Thank you to my sisters who pray for me every day....

Later, I will take Don to an eye clinic close by for some tests.  He is quite amazed that his cataract surgery was so quick and easy.  Soon he will actually be able to see a TV and drive properly again.

So, we are finally out of the deepfreeze, and 0C feels warm!  Hopefully we won't see any more real cold spells until December!

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.
