Since my trip to the USA got scotched, I did the next best thing, getting within 5 miles of the border today.

I picked up my friend Betty and we headed towards Waterton National Park, not sure what we would see with all the smoke in the air....

Since we were passing by Pincher Creek, I decided to call my cousin Joe Gilmore, who I knew lived in the area, and he kindly invited us to stop by.  While we were at his lovely acreage, his plans for working that day fell through, so he was happy to play tour guide and chauffer for us to Waterton!!  What a bonus that was for us!!  Thank you Joe!!

The smoke was intermittently quite bad and obscured a lot of beauty but, as you will see below, we did manage to still see a lot this day....  We visited the huge wooden Prince Of Wales Hotel with its magnificent views and were shocked when people were pointing at a small black bear swimming across the lake!!!  Then it passed by us on land again twice more!!

Near the Cameron Falls, a sick deer, frothing at the mouth, passed us as we were heading for some delicious ice cream.

We cruised many different areas with our handy guide Joe and came across another small black bear when exiting the Red Rock Canyon....

So we had an exciting day and managed to get back to Diamond Valley before dark.  The moon pics were taken with the P1100.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.

Monday September 1, 2025

I didn't do much Friday or Saturday except to plan and pack for my trip south to visit family and friends and to enjoy God's Country...

I did get the last of my deliveries and I do hereby declare that I will NEVER ever order another thing off a Facebook sponsored ad, because all 4 recent orders came from China and they were all falsely advertised and completely useless.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Sunday, I thought that I would be missing the long weekend traffic but the highways were incredibly busy but moving well enough.  Calgary itself was worse, but I got to where I needed to bein the expected time.

I had a lovely visit with my brother Fern and his wife Eileen before heading to my sister Leonie's  near Longview.  I never took any photos until I hit this area near Okotoks which I love and where I lived for 9 years previously.

The Swainson Hawks seemed to be everywhere and I managed to get my "Alberta" picture (encompassing the Rockies, an oil pumpjack, livestock, and hay bales).

We had a nice dessert in Longview at a restaurant where Leonie's grandaughter works.  They have really impressive photos of horses on the walls.

And I used the P1100 to get the moon shots below...

Because I am using this ancient laptop, everything is horribly slow and I have been working almost 5 hours already.  I most certainly will be upgrading to a much more powerful laptop after I return to Edmonton Thursday evening.....

Looking forward to the Calgary-Edmonton Labour Day Football game this afternoon.  And it is rumored that we may have Aurora Borealis tonight.... Here's hoping......

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.
